I am seeking help with a sculpture project. I am based in Leeds and wish to work collaboratively with a local sculptor/metalworker on a private commission to design, fabricate and install a piece of work for the garden of a new build house in East London.
The piece will be inspired by a group of four timber columns located on a beach on the Solway Firth in West Cumbria. They are remnants from pre-industrial salt production in the area. The client and me are not necessarily expecting the work to be a literal or purely figurative representation of the timbers.
We want the sculptor’s understanding of materials and experience of fabrication methods to inform the design and production of the work – so we are looking for someone who is happy to work in this way. Our initial idea is to use some type of weathering metal (eg Corten steel) that will reflect the later industrial heritage of West Cumbria – but joint exploration of other ideas will be welcome.
The deadline for completion is early October 2019.
Contact Graeme Armstrong by email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in the project – or please forward this to anyone you know who might be.
